Custom RFID Wristbands with NFC Chip

In August, we produced custom RFID wristbands for a British agency in the Greater London area for an international conference in London. The wristbands were intended for a large, internationally active end customer, which had correspondingly high standards regarding quality, workmanship, and delivery dates.

The client didn’t want a traditional festival wristband, but rather a high-quality, reusable wristband made of synthetic leather. At the same time , an NFC chip was to be integrated directly into the wristband . Several thousand wristbands in two different designs were needed for the event.

High-quality faux leather wristbands in two colors

The wristbands were made from high-quality synthetic leather in two different colors. They were personalized using an embossing process directly on the material.

One important detail was the additional edge stitching. It gives the bracelets a clean, high-quality look and highlights the unique character of this design.

Since the wristbands were intended to be reusable, a traditional disposable clasp was not used. Instead, a clasp similar to that of a wristwatch was chosen. This allows the wristbands to be easily opened and closed and worn multiple times.

NFC chip integrated directly into the RFID wristband

The technical feature unique to this order was the NFC chip embedded in the wristband. This chip was programmed with a URL specified by the customer and encoded using NDEF prior to shipment.

One key requirement was compatibility with different smartphones. The NDEF encoding had to be implemented in such a way that the embedded URL could be read by both Android smartphones and Apple iPhones.

For the user, the feature is simple: Hold the smartphone up to the wristband, and the registration page stored on the NFC chip opens immediately. No additional app is required for compatible devices.

The faux leather wristband thus combines the high-quality design of a reusable attendee wristband with the practical functionality of an RFID wristband featuring an integrated NFC chip.

Several thousand custom-made RFID wristbands

This project combined several requirements: faux leather in two colors, custom embossing, edge stitching, a reusable watch clasp, and an integrated, pre-programmed NFC chip with NDEF encoding for Android and Apple devices.

Added to that was the quantity required. The conference required several thousand custom-made RFID wristbands in the two requested designs.

Projects like these are particularly interesting to us because there is usually no off-the-shelf solution available. We work with the customer to determine the materials, design, and technical requirements. If necessary, we first create samples or prototypes. Once approved, we manufacture the required quantity.

In this case, we were able to meet the requirements of the British agency and its international end client as agreed. The entire order was delivered to the United Kingdom in the required quality and in a timely manner before the conference.
