Festival wristbands, RFID wristbands, and textile event products for one of Central Europe’s most famous music festivals

Old blast furnaces, massive steel structures, and international music: Colours of Ostrava is one of the most extraordinary music festivals in Central Europe. The festival has been held at the former Dolní Vítkovice industrial site in Ostrava since 2012.

Heliotextil – Harald Platzer GmbH has also been a partner of Colours of Ostrava since 2012.

What began with traditional festival wristbands has evolved into an established partnership over the course of many festival editions. Heliotextil has supported Colours of Ostrava since 2012 with a variety of event products—including festival wristbands, RFID wristbands, lanyards, and banners. Today, Heliotextil is also officially listed as a partner on the festival’s website.

Colours of Ostrava – Music in an Extraordinary Setting

Colours of Ostrava is an international, multi-genre music festival in the Czech Republic. The festival owes a significant part of its identity to its venue: Dolní Vítkovice, a former industrial site featuring historic blast furnaces and imposing steel structures.

Amid this extraordinary industrial architecture, concerts by international artists, as well as talks, discussions, and other cultural events, take place.

The unique blend of music, culture, and an industrial backdrop makes Colours of Ostrava a one-of-a-kind festival—and an event that places correspondingly high demands on organization, infrastructure, and event equipment.

Partner of Colours of Ostrava since 2012

The partnership between Heliotextil and Colours of Ostrava began in 2012 with custom-designed festival wristbands.

Over the years, Heliotextil has manufactured various event products for Colours of Ostrava. In addition to festival wristbands , these included RFID wristbands, lanyards, and banners, among other items.

A long-standing partnership offers particular advantages when it comes to large-scale events: requirements, quality standards, and processes are well-established and can be refined from one festival edition to the next. In addition to product quality, reliable delivery dates, flexibility, and well-coordinated processes are particularly important.

High-quality woven festival wristbands as a branding and sponsorship platform

At Colours of Ostrava, high-quality woven festival wristbands from Heliotextil were among the items used.

With this design, motifs, lettering, and logos are woven directly into the fabric strap. This creates a high-quality look and makes woven festival wristbands particularly appealing for festivals where design and brand image play an important role.

For the festival wristbands produced for Colours of Ostrava, logos from sponsors and partners were integrated directly into the wristband alongside the festival design.

This turns the festival wristband into both a branding and sponsorship platform. Sponsors are not only visible on traditional advertising spaces at the festival grounds, but are also directly integrated into a product that visitors wear on their wrists throughout the festival and often keep as a memento long afterward.

In addition to woven versions, Heliotextil also offers printed festival wristbands. Which option is best suited for an event depends, among other things, on the design, the desired look, the intended use, and the budget. Woven festival wristbands are an attractive solution for a particularly high-quality textile presentation.

From Festival Wristbands to RFID Wristbands

The partnership with Colours of Ostrava also highlights how the needs of the event industry have evolved.

While traditional festival wristbands were used in previous editions of the festival, Colours of Ostrava now uses RFID wristbands with built-in chips.

RFID wristbands combine the customizable design of a fabric festival wristband with digital event technology. Depending on the system used, RFID wristbands can be used, for example , for access control, identification, ticketing, or accreditation.

At Colours of Ostrava, the chip wristband is used, among other things, for identification and to gain access to the festival grounds.

Despite the integrated technology, the wristband remains a visible part of the festival’s branding. Design and technical requirements are combined in this process.

2026: Tens of thousands of RFID wristbands and a last-minute reorder

The partnership will continue in 2026 as well. For this year’s festival, Heliotextil is producing tens of thousands of custom-designed RFID wristbands and banners for Colours of Ostrava.

Shortly before the festival, additional needs arose: Ticket sales were stronger than originally anticipated, and more RFID wristbands were needed on short notice.

Heliotextil was able to respond to the increased order volume, manufacture the additional RFID wristbands within the tight timeframe, and meet the required delivery date.

This flexibility is especially important at festivals. It’s not always possible to accurately predict attendance figures and the quantities needed months in advance. Higher-than-expected ticket sales or last-minute changes can result in a need for additional event supplies right before an event.

That’s when the value of an experienced manufacturer becomes apparent: In addition to quality and design, flexibility, quick coordination, and on-time delivery are also essential.

A Long-Term Partnership Rather Than a One-Time Order

Since 2012, the festival, the products used, and the event technology have continued to evolve. The partnership between Colours of Ostrava and Heliotextil has remained in place.

For Heliotextil, this partnership exemplifies its long-term collaboration with event organizers: understanding their needs, developing customized solutions, and responding reliably even when conditions change at short notice.
